Center Brayden Schenn was traded towards the St. Louis Blues through the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday for forward Jori Lehtera, no. 27 pick within the 2017 National hockey league Draft along with a conditional pick within the 2018 draft.
Using the No. 27 pick, the Flyers selected center Morgan Frost. Philadelphia earlier selected center Nolan Patrick using the No. 2 pick.
Schenn had 55 points (25 goals, 30 assists) in 79 games for Philadelphia this year, and the 17 power-play goals were tied for first within the National hockey league with Nikita Kucherov from the Tampa Bay Lightning and Alex Ovechkin from the Washington Capitals. He was no. 5 pick within the 2010 draft by the la Nobleman Ezequiel Carrera Jersey.
"He's a great player," St. Louis gm Doug Lance armstrong stated. "He's [25]. He suits the age bracket from the guys we are building around (Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, Colton Parayko and Alex Pietrangelo). A genuine good player. He has got a pleasant agreement for 3 years ($5.125 million from the National hockey league salary cap each season, based on CapFriendly.com). We are excited to possess him."
Schenn performed center and left wing in the six seasons in Philadelphia. Lance armstrong stated coach Mike Yeo can give him a go at center.
Buying and selling Schenn can make Patrick's road to the National hockey league a little simpler.
"It had been certainly one of individuals that simply type of left nowhere," Philadelphia gm Ron Hextall stated. "Wasn't like i was shopping Brayden. However this deal arrived, so we enjoy the draft the coming year, we love to the late pick this season, we love to Jori. Just a deal that made sense Francisco Liriano Jersey."
Frost, 18, wasn't any. 31 on National hockey league Central Scouting's final ranking of United States skaters. He'd 62 points (20 goals, 42 assists) in 67 games for Sault Ste. Marie from the Ontario Hockey League this year.
"He's an very intelligent player," Hextall stated. "That's his No. 1 asset. Really smart, reads the ice well. Had a very deft touch moving the puck. Good two-way player. Demonstrated up real good within the [National hockey league Scouting Combine fitness] testing, which is just a little bit of it. We feel it is a kid with a great deal of upside. He has got good speed, but he really dissects the sport much better than most players."
Lehtera, 29, had 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 64 games for St. Louis this year.
Hextall stated he envisions Lehtera like a utility forward who are able to fill a variety of roles, including penalty-killing, much like center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who the Flyers lost towards the Vegas Golden Knights within the National hockey league Expansion Draft.
"He has got a properly-rounded game," Hextall stated. "He is able to experience the wing, he is able to participate in the middle. We love to the gamer. Provides the coach more options."
The Blues can defer the 2018 pick to 2019 if it's within the top ten Frank Thomas Jersey.
